Fun fact: the reason it can do this is because the Famicom (The Japanese version of the NES) didn’t have a start button on the second controller, that space was used for a microphone (Famously that was “Loud Sounds” the maunal for Zelda talked about to defeat the Pols Voice). Also the controllers were wired to the system
