Kiss
I attended two TCAF parties and met so many awesome people there. This is just a tiny bit of what happened. These two are Laura and Mathieu!
And yes, in Quebec (also in France and some parts of Europe), we kiss on the cheeks as a greeting and a goodbye. It’s so natural to us that it’s hard to stop doing it where it’s uncommon!
She didn’t seem to mind all that much.
Well, I’d seen her the day before and she’d been told we did this. At least she was informed it was a cultural thing!
I would probably die of cuteness if someone did that to me XD
Cultural education! I love it =) Very cute strip.
Hein??
Uh people do it here to, only they don’t really kiss, but just line their faces paralel to each other, and then make a kissing sound, and then on the other side to… I am 21 years old and to this very day I still do not get it. I still hate it…
Are you from Hungary? Your email ends with .hu?
Sometimes it’s more like leaning cheek against cheek and kissing air. Hahaha
same happened to me in France… it creeped me out at first xD
“hello, I’m your father’s cousin, you’ve never seen me before, let me kiss you on the cheek”- this would scare any little girl, wouldn’t it?
Yes. Yes it would. xD I don’t like my personal bubble popped, so I would be creeped out even by my closest friends. It’s not a weird habit or anything, just not for me~ :3
I’m sure there’s some french man or woman that’s uncomfortable with it. xD Maybe? No? Aah…
I’m used to my friends doing it, but some weird adults I’ve never seem before….no thanks xD My little brother was so disgusted by this habit…he kinda managed to run away before more of those weird french relatives of us greeted him xD
Oh, not everyone enjoys doing that. It also takes some time to get used to it! I would be so unwilling as a preteen. XD
La face a Mathieu dans le 3e panel! Hahahaha!
we do it in mexico too, it sometimes gets awkward tho.
laura didnt mind much, love is in the air maybe?
Actually, it’s ’cause she had kinda been warned the previous day. She’d asked me about it. Although she knew, it still took her by surprise!
It’s also common in most Latin-American countries too! I was raised between here and the Dominican Republic, and I always loathed kiss-greeting every single person at a party. And there were a lot of parties.
Oooohhh I understand that.
when we were taught greetings in french 1, we were told about this and were expected to greet our classmates as such. eugh.
…Okay, that’s weird. We do that in social events, but we don’t kiss our classmates. (I think they sometimes do in France, though?)
my hair stylist has started hugging and kissing me. I’m still unsure how to feel about it.
I would be pretty uneasy if my hair stylist did that.
C’est LE Mathieu de la technique ?
Oui!
Ha, we do that in Mexico too.
A classmate of mine was randomly kissed on a train in Paris by a soldier. I think he’d just gotten home on leave or gotten out of the army or something, and we all laughed about it later, but it was really wierd.
We do that in Brazil. Sometimes.
Interesting. You kiss on the cheek even on people you don’t know :)
My extended family kisses as a greeting, they’re from Portugal, but my Metis arse was always VERY confused by it…
