I’ve always thought it’s funny and cute that people can instinctively feel the need to match the volume of the more quiet person. I lost my voice several times at my job and it was always funny to see how many people would suddenly stop speaking as soon as they learned I couldn’t talk. I wonder if it’s just a politeness thing or a throw back to living in the wilds. Like, maybe if someone is whispering or not talking it’s because there’s a predator that they can see but you can’t so you better be quiet too, just in case.
