I’m an uncultured American, so this was a bit of a shock to me. I don’t remember ever seeing this during my trip to Canada, but I guess I never went to the cool Canadian supermarkets.
(And how does bagged milk work? Does one drill a hole and squeeze? untie it and pray it won’t blorp all over the table? bite like a vegetarian Dracula? what?
I grew up in Edmonton and we had that. I don’t see it there any longer, not that I looked. In Victoria we have no such, but they do sell it in glass bottles, presumably for all the old British ladies who have fond memories of the milkman visiting.
In my family we cut one corner to poor from and a smaller tip off the other corner so it pours more easily.
What the ….. when did that happen? I only remember the cartons and the plastic jugs here in Edmonton. I’ve lived here my whole life so that must have been some time ago.
Seems like it’d be easier to package the milk in a semi-hard plastic jug like in the US. The dairies still need to put the milk in something. May as well put it in a container that’s both reusable and won’t require a secondary container to contain the first container.
Well… “reusable” is a loose term. Everyone I know throws out the jugs. Some recycle. Many don’t. Seems like plastic bags would take up less space while still being just as harmful to the environment. The container would be reused.
My mom used to reuse the plastic milk bags, she’d cut the tops off and wash them out. The other kids with regular plastic lunch sandwich bags would blow them up and pop them in the school yard. Those milk bags? Good luck.
Second I have read that features milk in bags. Mind still confused as I have always had milk form a bottle. Only resent year has it been a plastic bottle.
I was pretty confused before I realized Canadian milk comes in bags, haha
SAME, I was thought they had already bagged the jugs or something.
Only in some place of Canada. Western Canada doesn’t have milk in bags.
Interesting. So Canada has bagged milk too…I love the reactions of people who’ve never seen bagged milk lol

AAARGH
You put the bag in a milk pitcher (made especially for milk bags) and cut one corner.

Ahhh, memories of childhood…
We had it here in Victoria for a while – I grew up with it – but it definitely went away about a dozen years ago or so. Which sucks. I miss it.

As would I!
