Something similar happens to me quite often. My art teacher wanted me to become an architect, my sociology TA wanted me to become a sociology major, my mother’s cousin and her husband wanted me to become either a journalist or a psychologist. My mother’s a professor and all of her professor friends always think I should work in their field as well. Is this just something people do?

Taking bets on whether he says that to EVERY former student?

It might be that people who work in that field can see that you are good in their field because that’s what they have experience in.
I can’t help but wonder if you actually said that to him.
I did!
