They were purchased at pet supply stores so not really XD. Bones are just really durable and the dogs enjoy gnawing on and hideing them even if the dried meat is long gone
They USED to eat bones; they were given the bones after a meal so they could crack them open and suck out the marrow, it’s good for them.
Unfortunately, now we think that dogs will get a bone stuck in their throat and die, so they only get treats SHAPED like bones. Still, I guess it is not inaccurate to say that dogs eat bones.
I’ve had experiences like this. One of those horrible Baby Einstein disney books was about animals and their babies. “This is a cat. A baby cat is a kitten.” and so on. The baby rabbit was called a “bunny”. This is false; a baby rabbit is a “kit”. A “bunny” is what we call rabbits because they’re so adorable and/or it is alliterative with “bugs”. But while I myself didn’t know what a baby rabbit was called until I read a previous book to my kids, it really disgusted me–at that point I banned all Baby Einstein books from my house. They’d already been seriously discouraged as they are asinine tripe to begin with! Okay enough ranting. LOVE YOUR COMIC!
Actually, they’re called kittens! People just shorten it to “kit” because it’s less confusing, given cat kittens. But yeah, while “kit” is used fairly often, it’s a bit like calling puppies “pups”- you’ll be understood and it’s not likely to bother anyone, but it’s an abbreviation rather than the correct terminology.
-From someone who’s been far too enthusiastic about rabbits since he understood what they were.
Hi! I’ve just caught up on this comic, and I really like it! It’s cute and funny, and the art is adorable! Not to mention Margot is such a sweetheart! Also, congratulations on the new baby! ^-^
I don’t know if this is still the case (I hope not!), but children’s books and TV shows used to teach that the yellow traffic light meant “Wait,” which confused the hell out of me, as that was really what the *red* light meant (as one does not stop permanently, one merely waits for the green light to illuminate).
I guess they thought children too stupid to understand a concept that required multiple words.
Noooo I want so badly to understand but I don’t! Is the joke that dogs don’t eat bones? Is there another line to this children’s book!?
AAAAAAAH!!!
You got it! Dogs chew on bones but that’s hardly what they eat all the time…
To be fair, my dogs do CHEW on bones… some of them are older then they are and are left-overs from previous dogs that have since passed…
To quote Nathan Explosion, that’s pretty brutal.

The technical rigor of toddler books these days is just terrible.

I think my problem with this is that bones have never been their main source of food. The way the book words it is that it’s all dogs ever eat.

You seem to be a great person

The inaccuracy! What are they trying to teach children??? ‘n’
It’s like: “This is a human. Human eats chocolate.” :-)
Or “This is a human. Humans eat bubble gum.”
Even meat and vegetables, alone or in tandem, are inaccurate.
