This actually happened? Wtf? How in blazes are they going to rule out that you don’t have an Urinary Tract Infection? o_O
Its common enough as it is for women but pregnant women with tender immunity are even worse! I don’t know what your OBGYN was thinking…even if they decide nope, not gonna check for bacteria itself just protein to see if you have a metabolic problem, they should always do that kind of screening! Its only an extra plus that is gonna help you…(sorry, my nurse is coming out lol, damn nursing school made me hypochondriac as heck!)
Like Lisa_mona said, they’re just checking for sugar and proteins in urine at that point. They don’t bother checking for UTIs unless you have symptoms.
I see. Well good luck with the birth! I hope you have a name for her at this point. I can safely assume I am not the only one dying to meet her and to see how she is going to be in the series :)
UTI is ruled out earlier in pregnancy with test in a sterile container, and they could do it again if you have changes in symptoms that could indicate it.
In the last trimester, you just use paper cup because you just check for sugar and proteins.
My midwife has the cups AND the strips in the toilet, so you don’t have to go out of the toilet with your cup :P
Oh wow. At my OBGYN they have a little window with a solid door you open and leave the cup inside. The nurse in charge of test samples will open the opposite door to retrieve it, and you never have to take it out of the restroom. I never realized how luckily convenient that was until now; I just thought it was standard.

I learned something new about urine today.
But another reason for sterile cups is they come with lids. What if somebody jostles you as you walk by? Then “urine” trouble.
But the first thing that occurred to me when I read this is: what if you put your sample down next to somebody’s water to tie your shoe or something?
This just seems like a bad idea all around!
