From dictionary.com: -ous: a suffix forming adjectives that have the general sense “possessing, full of” a given quality ( covetous; glorious; nervous; wondrous ); -ous and its variant -ious have often been used to Anglicize Latin adjectives with terminations that cannot be directly adapted into English ( atrocious; contiguous; garrulous; obvious; stupendous ).
Therefore: Superfluous can be defined as “has a really bad case of the flu”. :D

Superfluous means redundant, right? As a kid, I thought my aunt was saying “super fluous”, as in “excessively fluous”… fluous isn’t a word, is it?
